New York State Health Exchange Portal

Thanks to the Affordable Care Act, on October 1, 2013 I signed my family up first on HealthCare.gov then registered on the New York State of Health web site.  The sign-up process had some delays, but after about one hour or so I had signed up with a login and password. A week later, I completed the online registration process on New York State of Health web site. The web site is simple and easy to navigate. But now, it’s time for me to pick a plan. There are perhaps hundreds of plans at different price points and I’m confused by the offerings. They offer a side-by-side comparison, but I find myself wanting to know more. I would like to see the entire plan offerings, including prescription benefits with the list of covered medications. Without the ability to really compare the plans side-by-side, I’ve decided that it’s either time to call the 800 number, or find a broker.

Have you signed up for the exchange in your state yet? What was your experience?

I did take a look at the plans and feel the same as you do: I want to know more about specific Rxs that are covered. My asthma meds are SO expensive – want to make sure I get a plan that will cover them.

But, still – yay for the Affordable Care Act. Am so excited about it for all of us. Can’t wait to have insurance – for the first time in FIVE YEARS!

Thanks for commenting Carolyn, I’m wondering how others are doing throughout the country. We’re lucky in NY since we’re managing our own exchanges and things seem to be going well. I think that they did a bang-up job on marketing and promoting the exchanges. Now we just need a bit more information. And yes, YAY – finally a little bit of help for those of us in the middle, er, shall I say it? Class…
